A trilateral meeting between the Russian, Iranian and Turkish delegations on the eve of the Syrian talks in Astana on Syria are finished, it lasted for 5.5 hours.




Three persons from each country participated in the talks, in particular, the head of the Middle East Department Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Jaberi Ansari and Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey Sedad Onal. Consultations were held behind closed doors.


All the participants of the negotiations that will start on Monday have arrived to the Kazakh capital. The talks, if successful, could signify the new stage of solving the armed conflict in Syria that started almost seven years ago.


The main round of the negotiations is expected to begin on Monday at 1 p.m. local time (07:00 GMT) and to finish at the same time on Tuesday.
