US President-Elect Donald Trump is likely to reverse the new sanctions imposed on Russia by the outgoing Obama administration, First Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Federation Council Committee for Defense and Security Frants Klintsevich told reporters.

“There is a big chance that Donald Trump will reverse the latest anti-Russian sanctions after he takes office,” the Russian senator said.

According to the politician, if sanctions remain effective, it will mean that Washington admits Russia could influence the US presidential elections by conducting cyberattacks.

“Trump would not be willing to accept this allegation, particularly as it is untrue,” Klintsevich stressed.

He also said that “this kind of scheming makes the US no credit.”

As reported earlier, Washington slapped new sanctions on Moscow over the alleged hacking into US political institutions. These sanctions apply to several Russian companies, the Federal Security Service and the Main Intelligence Agency of Russia’s General Staff. Besides that, the US authorities expelled 35 Russian diplomats and shut down two Russian compounds, in New York and Maryland.
