Honorary Professor of the Finnish National Defense University, Alpo Juntunen proposed, in his essay for the publication Suomen Kuvalehti, to create a military alliance with Russia. He believes that after the events in Ukraine and the Crimea, between Russia and the West came a period of confrontation.
If this confrontation grows into a war, then Finland will be alone, as it happened in 1939. Even neighboring Sweden is now ready only for a close military cooperation, but not for the creation of a full-fledged alliance, said the professor.
The military alliance with Russia would allow Finns to maintain a neutral status, believes Juntunen. The geopolitics expert insists that an agreement with the Russian military should be made taking into account the interests of both countries and the international law.
None of the officials of Finland has commented this idea.
