Moscow hopes the situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo could be resolved before the end of 2016, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Wednesday.

“We hope so. Yes, of course,” Bogdanov said in response to a RIA Novosti query.

He added terrorists have to be “knocked out” from the outlawed Daesh stronghold of Raqqa and the Iraqi city of Mosul, where a Baghdad-led liberation campaign is underway.

Moreover, concerning US-Russian relations, Russia hopes that relations with the United States relating to Syria will improve following the inauguration of Donald Trump as US President.

“We hope so,” Bogdanov told journalists asking whether Moscow hopes its relationship with Washington on Syria would improve after Trump takes office after his inauguration on January 20.

The Russian diplomat noted that contacts with the Trump team “are just beginning,” but lauded the president-elect’s positions outlined during the campaign.
