There is no way to isolate Russia, NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday at the German Marshall Fund in Brussels.
“I believe in a political dialog with Russia because Russia is our biggest neighbor, Russia is there to stay,” he said. “There is no way we can isolate Russia, we have to manage our relationship with Russia.”
The NATO head said the Organization had been discussing with Russia possible reforms of the OSCE Vienna Document on control over military activities and exercises in Europe.
“And especially in time when tensions run high, it’s especially important to keep chance for political dialog open with Russia,” he continued.
“With more military activity close to our borders, it is even more important that we try to have mechanisms in place to avoid incidents, and if they happen, to make sure that they don’t spiral out of control.”
