The outgoing administration of President Barack Obama is trying to impede the possible improvement of ties with Russia under the new president, a senior Russian lawmaker said, commenting on the recent allegations of the US Department of State about Russia’s actions in Syria.
“The old team of Obama is doing its best to prevent Trump from doing this (improving relations with Russia). This is how the Department of State’s statement should be treated,” said Konstantin Kosachev, who heads the Federation Council’s international affairs committee.
A US department of state spokesperson, Elizabeth Trudeau, accused Russia of violating international law in Syria, including by delivering airstrikes on “five hospitals and one mobile clinic in Syria” in her briefing late Tuesday, but gave no specific details. The Russian Defense Ministry dismissed the accusations as based on “out-and-out lies.”.
