On October 28, at approximately 3 pm Moscow time, two mortar rounds were fired at the Russian Embassy in Syria by terrorists. The fire was directed from the Jobar area, which remains under the control of anti-government forces.
One of the shells exploded near the main entrance to the office building of the Embassy, and the second one – outside the Embassy’s fence. Luckily, there were no casualties. The Russian mission suffered material damage, including damage to four cars.
We strongly condemn the latest terrorist attack on the Russian diplomatic mission. We will do everything in our power to bring those who planned and carried out the attack to justice.
Moscow will be carefully monitoring the international response to this crime. The response will serve as a kind of litmus test, indicating which of our partners reject terrorism and which absolve and enable the terrorists, directing them to “good” targets. We demand that the UN Security Council anti-terrorism resolutions be implemented and that the funnelling of weapons and money to terrorists cease.
Russia’s principled policy of waging a consistent and uncompromising fight against terrorists in Syria will continue.
