Nineteen people died and three more were injured in the Mi-8 helicopter’s crash landing in Russia’s Yamal, a source in local law enforcement agencies told TASS on Saturday.

“Rescuers that arrived at the site have entered the damaged helicopter, where they found three people in serious condition. According to preliminary date, other 19 passengers were killed,” the source said.

 

He noted that one injured passenger was taken to the Urengoy settlement by a helicopter of the Skol company, while other two survivors receive medical assistance on the spot as they condition is assessed as critical.

 

The Russian Emergencies Ministry earlier reported that reports came at 6:57pm Moscow time on October 21 that a Mi-8 helicopter crash landed in 80 kilometers to the north-west of the Urengoy settlement in the Purovsky district of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District. According to preliminary data, 22 people were onboard the helicopter.

 

The press service of Russia’s Rosneft oil company said that the helicopter transported employees of a contractor company from the Suzunsky oil deposit to Novy Urengoy.
