The restoration of truce in Syria is more important for Germany than the issue of introducing sanctions against Russia, German government spokesman Steffen Seibert told reporters in Berlin on Monday.

“The government is discussing all options, including sanctions,” Seibert said. “But for us the top priority in this situation is the issue of what should be done for people to deliver humanitarian assistance,” he said.

None of the European Union’s member states has proposed introducing sanctions against Russia because of the Syrian crisis, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said earlier on Monday ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.
