Ankara’s proposals for cooperation with Moscow on truce in Syria should be studied closely, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksey Meshkov told TASS on Friday.

“It is common knowledge that Russia had certain disagreements with Turkey regarding the Syrian settlement problem,” Meshkov said. “Any steps by Ankara for the sake of identifying mutually acceptable solutions of the Syrian crisis should be studied closely.”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu earlier told a news conference in Ankara that Turkey was prepared to cooperate with Russia on establishing truce in Syria.

“We firmly supported the previous agreements between Russia and the United States regarding the ceasefire regime,” Cavusoglu said. “Regrettably, the truce has failed to be implemented to the full extent. We have begun to discuss these issues with Russia with the beginning of normalization of relations.”
