Russia has never had a so-called Plan B for Syria as Moscow categorically rules out a military solution to the Syrian crisis, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday, Sputnik reported.
“We don’t have any Plan B because we are convinced that there is no military solution to this crisis,” Lavrov said at a news conference following his address to the UN General Assembly.
“We never mentioned Plan B. It was mentioned by our partners, mentioned and then denied. But I trust [US State Secretary] John Kerry when he says that he is convinced there is no military solution, and this is absolutely our position as well,” he stressed.
Syria has been mired in bloody war since March 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fighting numerous terrorist groups.
