The fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday in a townhouse on the asylum center grounds, NL Times reported.
Firefighters and ambulances were quickly deployed as it was suspected that may be people in the burning building.
“No one remained inside during the fire. So we found no injured people during and after the extinguishing”, a fire department spokesperson said to the news wire. “But beforehand, when leaving the house, one resident was injured.”
The fire brigade managed to get the fire under control within 30 minutes. The neighboring townhouse also sustained damage. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
