About 80% of the Crimean Tatars intend to participate in the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, the Ukrainian media have spread the statement of the “Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People” (banned in Russia) leader Refat Chubarov, in which he called the Crimean Tatars and other inhabitants of the peninsula not to participate in the elections.

“Monitoring Center conducted studies in all regions of the Crimea. Today, 60% of the Crimean Tatars are ready to come to ballot stations on Sept. 18 and have already decided for whom to cast their vote, 20% informed about their readiness to participate in the vote, but still are undecided who to vote”, said Smirnov, who oversees the sphere of interethnic relations in the republic.

Smirnov stressed that the results refute the statements of some Ukrainian politicians, who claim that the Crimean Tatars are boycotting the upcoming elections.

“It is impossible to make such statements, being outside of the Crimea. Moreover, we see that those false predictions are coming from the energy blockade organizers and the leaders of extremist groups”, said Smirnov.
