Ukrainian TV channel NewsOne conducted a massive survey among viewers on their attitude to the cessation of economic and trade relations with Russia.
Thus, 78% of respondents believe that relations with Russia must be restored, as Ukraine is losing money and workplaces. The survey involved more than 9,000 Ukrainians.
According to political expert Andrey Velerinsky, the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to give up on Russian markets has severely affected the Ukrainian economy and resulted in the closure of thousands of workplaces.
“The closure of markets for GDP goods, which is now falling, is not a rational position. The population refers negatively to its revenues fall and closing of workplaces”, said the expert. Velerinsky stressed that products that are produced in Ukraine and sold abroad generate foreign exchange earnings. “It is positive for the economy. It’s not exactly a popular point of view because of the conflict, but it is positive for the economy which is now falling”, the expert explained.
Despite the statement by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in the Verkhovna Rada on the reorientation of markets towards Europe, the majority of Ukrainians, according to the poll, do not support the President’s position. Previously Research & Branding Group Agency conducted a sociological survey among the population in all regions of the country, the results of which showed that the majority of Ukrainians (60%) are in favor of a peaceful resolution of the crisis in the east of Ukraine and adhesion of the Minsk agreements. Citizens of country have also opposed the policy of the President on the conduction of the antiterrorist operation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
