Bulgarian politician from the “Attack” party Svetoslav Proynov called on the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to stop discrimination of Bulgarians in Ukraine and give them the territorial autonomy on the territory of the Odessa region. Proynov also noted that the Security Service of Ukraine is putting pressure on the Bulgarian diaspora in the South-Eastern part of the country due to the statements of its members in support of obtaining the territorial autonomy.
Proynov recalled that in the past the Bulgarians migrated to this land to escape the constant harassment by the Turkish authorities. “Now they are actually facing with the harassment by the Ukrainian authorities, who do not wish to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of national minorities in Ukraine. I would also like to emphasize that the employees of the Security Service put illegal pressure on our diaspora following statements about the necessity of territorial autonomy”, said the Bulgarian politician. Proynov laments the policy of “double standards” conducted by the Ukrainian authorities as providing the autonomy to the Crimean Tatars, it is necessary to consider the possibility of granting such autonomy to other national minorities as well. “Otherwise, we praise the Crimean Tatars and violate the rights of all other large communities”, he noted.
Note that Proynov together with other political and public figures of Bulgaria has previously supported the creation of the “People’s Parliament of Bessarabia” – the representative body defending the interests of ethnic communities in Odessa region, which is home to the largest number of Bulgarians in Ukraine.
Recall that the Bulgarian diaspora in Ukraine requires from Poroshenko the territorial autonomy in Odessa and Kherson regions.
