The Russian Defense Ministry said some groups of the “opposition” in Syria are involved in the terrorist provocative acts alongside ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra amid the cessation of hostilities, referring to the recently increased number of such provocations in Aleppo in particular.
Gen. Igor Konashenkov, the official spokesman for the Ministry, said in statements to the reporters in Palmyra on Thursday that there is information saying that the armed groups operating in the southern and western parts of Aleppo that had previously announced their affiliation to the opposition have put themselves under the command of
Jabhat al-Nusra and have been taking part in provocations.
He added that the Russian coordination center in Hmeimim receives almost daily information that new groups of terrorists are arriving in Aleppo, an indication that they are preparing large-scale combat activities in the province.
The Russian air force, he noted, targeted terrorists who attacked al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo city and forced them to retreat.
Dozens of civilians have been killed and many others wounded in repeated shelling of the neighborhood by terrorist groups positioned in nearby areas over the past days.
