BELGRADE – Around 60,000 migrants have passed through Serbia since the beginning of the year, it was said at a meeting of the Serbian parliament’s Committee on Labor, Social Issues, Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction on Tuesday.

Border police chief, General Milenko Bozovic, told the committee that since the beginning of the year, the average number of migrants passing through Serbia every day had been around 2,000, far fewer than, for example, in September and October, when the number had been up to 11,000.

Bozovic said that around 600,000 migrants had passed through Serbia in 2015, and about 600 of them had applied for asylum to stay in the country.
