Russian President Vladimir Putin and Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran Ali Khamenei asserted that it’s impossible to achieve a political settlement in Syria via external dictations.

During their meeting on the sideline of the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries Forum held in Tehran on Monday, Putin and Khamenei stressed that Moscow and Tehran are in agreement on rejecting attempts to dictate options for the political settlement in Syria, and that there can be no alternative to a settlement implemented by the Syrian people themselves.

Talks during the meeting focused primarily on the crises in the region, particularly the situation in Syria, with the two sides exchanging opinions extensively in this regard.

This visit, which marks Putin’s first visit to Tehran since 2007, will see talks between the Russian President and Iranian officials for the purpose of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
